Have You Been Caught?
Disclaimer: The photos on this page are intended to educate the home owner, that price does matter and for those who chose the option of a cheaper price over a more expensive price will, in the end, suffer – for you can only say that YOU GOT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Yes it is true prices do range from contractor to contractor and the cheaper the price the cheaper the work will be and you will not get value for money by taking a cheaper price and you will not get what you paid for; there is no question of that.
The photos on this page are proof of what I say.
I cannot name the contractors who did the jobs below for legal reasons…
But I am sure that the home owners would be more than happy to let you know how they were “ripped off”!
The owners of this house below contacted me to inspect work recently done by another house re-stumping contractor for they felt the job was not done properly.
- Note the ‘fibro’ packing on the top of the new stump just put in…In fact all seven (7) new stumps put in by the so called ‘contractor’ were packed with up to 5 pieces of fibro on top of each concrete stump!
After the owners tried to contact the contractor for three months to come back and fix the job with no success, I was contracted to fix the problem at the owner’s cost, which meant he had to pay for the job a second time.
- After removing the stump from the ground I found that the stump was less than 220 mm deep in the ground and not the 900 mm required.
We also found that the stump hole was filled with the old broken up stump – no base, no concrete around the new stump – only a thin layer of bedding sand and the stump stood on top of it!
- I found that all seven new concrete stumps that the so-called contractor put in were like that – how questionable is that?!
Here you see the concrete stump and take note of the dirt mark and read the tape measure – you will see it was less than 220 mm in the ground!
- Take note how the batons (palings) were attached with nylon rope and bits of timber nailed to the floor – how professional of them!
Does price matter? – You bet it does! You take a cheap price & you WILL get what you paid for – a very cheap job!
